“With our women-centred savings collectives at the heart of practice, we are forging a new system of community organising...”
In the heart of every slum, women hold families together, build communities, and fight for a better future. At NSDF, we believe that when women unite, transformation begins. This belief gave birth to Mahila Milan—a self-organized savings collective led by slum-dwelling women, proving that change starts from within.
Mahila Milan is a women-led savings and credit initiative that empowers slum dwellers to take charge of their financial stability. It’s more than a savings scheme—it’s a movement of resilience, leadership, and collective strength.
Through small, daily savings, women create a community fund that provides financial support for housing, healthcare, education, and emergencies. This fund is managed with transparency, trust, and accountability.

Women become decision-makers, ensuring families rise from poverty to security.
Savings help families secure housing and negotiate better rehabilitation options.
The collective fund supports children’s education, medical emergencies, and business start-ups.
Whether facing eviction or financial hardship, Mahila Milan is always there for its own.
Mahila Milan is proof that when women rise, entire communities rise.
