Nirman Slum Dwellers Federation also known as National Slum Dwellers Federation has been a voice for the urban poor since 1970.

About Us

Who We Are

At Nirman Slum Dwellers Federation (NSDF), we believe that every slum dweller has the right to dignity, security, and a home. Since 1970, we have been the voice of the urban poor, ensuring that their rights are not ignored and their communities are not erased.

What began as a fight against forced evictions in Mumbai’s Janata Colony has grown into a global movement. Today, NSDF operates in 21 countries, leading efforts to secure land, housing, and essential services for slum communities. Through our surveys, advocacy, and rehabilitation programs, we have positively impacted over 1,00,000+ families.

With 5,000+ volunteers and a commitment to community-driven solutions, NSDF works with slum dwellers, not just for them. From conducting slum mapping and surveys to ensuring rehabilitation with dignity, our work is rooted in the belief that when people unite, governments listen.
